Valentine's Day

For some reason Valentine's Day is one of my favorite holidays..I know it is just a day when chocolate is expensive and a dozen roses is a small car payment, but I still like it. Nick, of course, thinks it is stupid, but he does attempt to do sweet things on Valentine's Day (to stay out of the dog house)! The week before I made some cute little Valentine's from Austin to some of his Grandparents and great grandparents, they turned out really cute. We made the front with his hand print, he didn't like it too much but I wanted him to help :) I also made some sugar cookies for Nick to take to work and another plate for our nieces and nephews. I think I need more kids so I can spoil them with crafts and baked good because I always buy things for Chris and Sally's kids. Here is his card (sorry it is sideways)...

On V-day I woke up extra early to cook Nick a special breakfast before his golf and it turned out pretty cute. I made pink pancakes and used a Wilton cake decorating kit to write out letters and draw hearts on the skillet- it was Jess's brilliant idea. After golf Nick came home with a dozen white roses, which were really pretty and I loved! That night my parents offered to watch Austin so Nick and I could have the night out! We went to Olive Garden (Macaroni Grill was booked) and then the movie 'He's Just Not that Into You'. It was a great night and another Valentine's Day with my valentine. Maybe one year Nick will surprise me and do something really unexpected and romantic...a girl can dream.

He was super tired, it was 6:15am!

It's Party Time!

Austin turned 1 this Sunday, February 8th!!! I can't believe that I have a one year old and one year ago I gave birth to him. My mom called me and said, "Congratulations on keeping Austin alive for a whole year." Umm...thanks? I am pretty sure I set my bar a little higher than that but I guess it is a valid point. In one whole year he went from a little helpless baby that couldn't even move his head without help to a full on little boy that charges through the house throwing his balls and drinking out of sippy cups. I don't remember letting this happen, but it did!!
For his birthday we got together a few weekends ago because this was the only time everyone was in town. I had planned to do it this last weekend but after finding out not everyone would make it, I threw a celebration together in less than 24 hours. I had an ice cream bar with all the favorite toppings and cute ice cream dishes (thanks to Wendy) and lots of other sweet desserts. My mom made a cute cake all for Austin and a platter of cupcakes for all the guests. I decorated the house, moved some furniture, bought our party hats and we had an AWESOME party going! Here are LOTS of pictures:

Here is the group

Jess's kids eating under out table- so cute!

Here is us all opening presents- all the kids chipped in and of course wonderful Jess...don't know what we would do without her!

The party was a blast and we love all of our family and friends that came to celebrate- but we also had many people we wished could have come!! Austin was hilarious at the party with all the attention. When we all surrounded him to sing, the whole song he was cracking up. I'm not sure if he thought we were all being silly or he was embarassed but either way it was adorable!! Now I just know that I will be planning his 2nd birthday party before I know it...

New Nursery

Nick and I have been working hard to get Austin's nursery done and we finished about a month ago. We bought most of the wall decor and such at Ikea or Hobby Lobby and it actually was really inexpensive after all was done. I finally took some pictures and here they are!

These 2 pictures are from his door... The picture lighting is dark cause the sun was coming through his window- the wall color isn't that gray.

Notice the cute little rug in front of his changing table we got at Ikea!

Here is the shelf the Nick and his dad worked so hard on and we love it!

His picture collage wall with lots of pictures of him and family, a few of the frames aren't filled yet. The table was a birthday gift from the Harris grandparents- also from Ikea and he loves it.

The shelf and crib made by Papa Weaver. That plaque on the shelf says, "I am a child of God" it's so cute!

You can see the details of the shelf a little bit better in this pictures. Nick and his Dad did an awesome job.

We decided to go for a darker blue cause it looked so good against the white shelf and I thought it would transition to a little boy room really well.

His towel rack that I LOVE! I found this at Ross a long time ago and have been waiting to hang it up..

A shot above the changing table- these cute pictures are from Ikea.

So that's it! We are proud of his little room even though it was a bit late. His is now the only room in the house that is not longer a "work in progress..." funny how that works.
