Crafty Mommy

Mckayla's room is full of little craft project that I did and it was so fun. I documented a few of them to share with everyone.

I saw this picture & did my best to copy it

I had wood letters cut out, then covered them in batting and fabric. This one took a long time to finish...

I used Austin's blue baskets from his nursery and added a little spray paint...

to make them perfect for Kayla's room.

I found this at Goodwill for $2 and thought it was so cute.

it took a little spray paint on the frame...

some pink paint on the hearts (I just used a leftover color sample from her wall colors)

and it looks so cute on her shelf!

This frame I was really excited about because I found it on clearance at Hobby Lobby for $12, normally $70! I have no idea what was wrong with it- but it works perfect for me!

some more white paint..

 and it looks just perfect!

Her mirror was probably my favorite find for the nursery. I had been looking for months for the perfect mirror but could only find ones I liked for $60++!
I stumbled on this one at Lowe's on clearance for $20 & it was exactly what I wanted.. just one little problem in the corner- a crack! It was too good to pass up & I found an easy fix

I super glued a piece of felt over the crack to attached one of the bows I made for her!!

You think I'm done?? The projects never end around here! I am now in full baby shower planning mode and have all kinds of projects around the house to complete. But those won't be shared until after Cristina's beautiful
Shabby Chic
baby shower!

Letters Re-Do

I have been spending lots of time around the house doing little projects on my own, and testing out my crafty side. I have come to the conclusion that:

1. I wish I was a little more talented
2. Crafts don't work when your 2 yr old is awake
3. I look real good with a painter mask on

I am now ready to start posting some of my projects, and we will start with Austin's name plaque I have been working on.

Remember these letters from his nursery?? Well I didn't want to put them to waste, but they just didn't fit into his new room theme..

so I came up with this idea. First I had my father in law cut me a long board out of plywood & I started with spray painting the edges of it black.

Then I used one of our reject paint samples for the walls in Austin's new room and painted over the whole board.

Complete!

Next I found some sandpaper in our garage and got to work on all the edges and parts of the front. I sanded on the paint to let the black show through and give it that distressed look..

I love how all the bumps and imperfections in the wood started to show through. It wasn't as distressed as I was going for, so I took a paper towel and lightly pray painted it then rubbed it on the sides.

Now that the board was done, I just needed to pick out a color for the letters and paint them. I went with navy to add a little more color to the walls and it fit in perfect with all the other colors in the room.

(they are sitting on bowls covered in grocery bags so I could rotate them without leaving finger prints on the letters. I probably could have done it an easier way but like I said, I'm not that crafty)

Once the letters dried, I had Nick use some wood glue to mount them onto the board & then hang it on the wall. Here is the finished product!

I am not in love with the truck picture hanging below the plaque, so when I find something better I plan on switching it out.

His room is done, I just need to finish hemming the curtains and I will post pictures of it next!

and here is the most recent belly picture I have..

Cheap Kellogg's

(photo from Moms Need to Know)

Whenever I find cheap cereal I STOCK UP! Cereal goes through highs and lows and I will buy 10 boxes one month and nothing for a few months until it hits another sale. A good price on cereal (one that shouts, "Buy as many as you can!") is $1.00. Sounds impossible- it's not but truthfully I still consider up to $1.50 a good deal. Finding it at a dollar is challenging but $1.50 and under not so much. Don't buy over $1.50!
Here are some new coupons through Kellogg's. Most of them are good, especially if it is off 1 box of cereal. The $1.00-1.50 off 3 boxes of cereal isn't going to help you out much. You can only print out the coupons 1 per computer but find your husband's laptop or borrow your neighbor's computer to print it out again. Then you will be a REAL couponer!

Match these coupons at Target (remember you can double a Target coupon with a manufacture!) with their $1.00 of Kellogg's right here where you can print it out as many times as you want!

Happy Couponing & watch out for Austin's adorable Halloween costume!

Deals I Am Loving This Week

I haven't done much with the couponing but I do have a list of deals I have bought this week at Target that require no Suday paper clippings- just hit print! The only website that you register your email is afullcup.com, which has all the Target store coupons and it is totally worth it. At Target you can double a Target store coupon with a manufacture coupon. Here are the deals:

Target

'Ice Age' or 'Horton Hears A Who' DVD- sale $10
$2.00 off 1 Ice Age or Horton = $8

Archer Farms Simple Balanced Bread- $2.39
$1.00 off AF Simple Balanced Bread
= $1.39

Archer Farms Artisan Bread- $0.99
$0.50 off Artisan Bread
= $0.49

Chex Mix- sale $1.75
$0.50 off Chex Mix- Target coupon
$0.50 off Chex Mix- manufacture coupon
= $0.75!

Special K Blueberry- $3.29
$1.00 off Kellogg's Cereal- Target coupon
$1.00 off Special K Blueberry- manufacture coupon
= $1.29!

Tips:
-Watch the expiration date, they will catch it!
-You can only use 1 Target coupon in a transaction. So if you want to buy multiple cereals/breads make it a few transactions- they get used to this.
There are a few more great deals but require coupons clipped from the Sunday paper. The movies are a great Christmas gift idea! If you thought this was helpful I will try to start adding more deals from grocery stores like Kroger & Randall's and put up a tutorial to get you started couponing. It really is great and kind of fun!

New Blog Ideas

Now that I am a cooking, couponing and full-blown housewife I wanted to start sharing some more mom-ish things to the blog. So I will start having more cooking tips I find, great recipes and best of all- great coupon deals in the Houston area. I have really gotten into this whole couponing world and want to share the savings with all! So I will try my hardest to post my weekly couponing grocery list with all the deals I find and the coupons I use to get the deals. I also add tips to help you get the most for your buck and meals I am cooking with the deals I find. It sounds like lots of work but I am going to try it out. Here is my first tip:

I like to buy big bags of chicken at WalMart for $5.43 (maybe a few cents off). It comes in a 10lb bag- so that is about $.50 a lb! Looks like this

Then I throw it all in a big stock pot, cover with water and bring to a boil. Once it starts to boil I turn the heat down to a low boil and leave it on the stove for an hour. No salt or seasoning- the chicken seasons itself. Here is what it looks like done

Dump it in a strainer- LET IT COOL! Then start shredding. I have 2 bowls- one for the meat and one for bones and yucky stuff. When you're done, divide the chicken into freezer baggies. Our little family can stretch it to 3 quart size baggies but if you have more kids it might be better to do 2 bags. Throw in the freezer and then it is so easy to make into a great chicken dinner. Here are some recipes I use it in:

Chicken Taco Soup
Chicken Enchiladas
Chicken Pot Pie
Any type of Chicken Casserole
Thai Chicken
BBQ Chicken Sandwiches
Chicken Tacos
There are many more but I just love pulling out the cooked chicken, letting it thaw and making a quick, yummy meal!
